8/2/12: Paige to attend talent development camp:
Paige Stantiall has been asked to join the Under 11/Under 13 development group for the lower north island. This is being held in Palmerston North this weekend at the NZ Rugby Institute at Massey University.
The group is made up of 20 players who the selectors think have potential. They will be coached to the guidelines set by National coach Paul Hornsby as well as fitness sessions.

Well done to Tarsh Hancock & Tyson Mant who both represented Central Squash in a one day competition against Wellington in November. They played 2 games each and wone one each. Central were the winners overall. Congrats guys!

Dylan Tasker named in 2012 World Junior Squad
The Boys squad of eight players will continue to prepare for the World Junior Boys Championships in July 2012. Four players will ultimately be selected to represent New Zealand at the event. It was announced today that the championships, previously planned for Egypt, will now take place in Doha, Qatar. The squad members (in alphabetical order) are as follows:

Club Champ results:
Rangitikei Squash Club Championships were held last week. There were full draws in most grades and it was pleasing to see a full 8 draw in the womens open for the first time in many years.
The Mens Open and Junior Boys was taken out by Dylan Tasker while club president Sally Stantiall took out Womens Open and Veterans. Other results: Mens Vets: Warren Mant, Mens D Grade: Sam Trotter, Mens E Grade: Brett Gardner, Mens F Grade: Joel Natusch, Womens E Grade: Natasha Hancock, Womens F grade and Junior Girls: Lily Stantiall. J Grade: Shaun Natusch.
For most players these are the results of hard work during the season.

Junior Nationals
The 6 day long NZ Junior Age group tournament has recently concluded. There were 2 players from Rangitikei at this tournament. Jake Tasker was seeded 13th in U17 boys and played to that seeding. Dylan Tasker was seeded 7th and after 5 hard matches he had only lost one and came 5th overall, a very pleasing result. The individuals were followed by the teams event where Dylan played no 1 for the Central Squash boys team. They were seeded 4th and came 5th, Dylan again had some pleasing personal results. The Millenium Junior Player Series for the season concluded with Nationals and the winners were announced at the teams dinner on Tuesday night, Dylan came 2nd in U19 boys.
District's U15's put through their paces
Wanganui Squash Club hosted a training session on Sunday for the districts under 15s players keen to be selected to represent Central Squash at the up and coming interdistrict team competition with Squash Wellington in November.
Around 40 participants were put through their paces, under the watchful eye of five coaches from around the region.
Grant Watts one of the districts top coaches was really impressed with the standard of these young players ranging in age from 7 to 14 year olds.
Rangitikei's own talented players: Tyson Mant, Kim Gust and Lily, Paige & Stella Stantiall attended.
Selection will be announced in 3-4 weeks.

F Grade women improve their seeding
Taumarunui hosted the F grade nationals and did a great job!
The Rangitikei did themselves and the club proud by being seeded 5th and coming out 4th overall. They trained hard leading up to the event and played well during it. The winning Putaruru team had 3 E1 players competing and they didn't drop a tie all week. The Saturday night Fairy Tale themed party was a huge hit and girls looked good in their Wizard of Oz cosutmes. They would like to thank Southern Rangitikei Vet Services, Phil Transom and the Club for all their support. The Rangitikei women say they learned alot about high pressure squash and will definitely be back next year to try again. although at E grade!

The day started with the annual challenge against Taihape for the Saywell shield. There were 22 matches played. Only 2 women won their matches but most of the others had 5 setters. The men made up for the women by winning 11 out of 13 matches. Daniel Wigglesworth and Jake Tasker both had great games, which they won in long games in the 5th. Rangitikei retained the shield for another year!
Later that evening the F grade women travelling to nationals in Taumarunui held a fundraiser quiz night and auction. Spot the lamb was a huge hit and fetched a good price at auction. Many thanks to auction sponsors Evilution Squash Rackets, Bruce Frecklington, Ward’s Furniture to go, ITM Rural Timber, Una Bailey, Spray it, Farmlands, PGG Wrightson and CMP.

Prince Junior Series final results:
The Prince series prizewinners including Kim Gust and the Stantiall girls.
Congratulations to all the Rangitikei Squash Club juniors that have competed in the Junior Prince Series this year. The juniors have finished with some outstanding results in this competition with final placings of, Paige Stantiall 2nd, Molly Stantiall 4th, Kim Gust 5th, Lily Stantiall 7th and Stella Stantiall 8th overall. Also well done to Tyson and Hamish Mant who also played in this competition.

After a full weekend of squash around the district Rangitikei has 9 players going to graded nationals mid September.
The F grade was played at Rangitikei and the women put their 2 months of early Sunday morning trainings to advantage by beating Wanganui and Squashgym Palmerston North to make it to the national finals in Taumarunui.
Sally Stantiall joined with Ohakune and Jake Tasker joined with Squashgym, both for C grade and both won and will travel to Timaru, Dylan Tasker will represent Squashgym for B grade at Whakaktane.
The F grade men were outclassed but their games improved during the weekend.
E grade was held at Inglewood and Rangitikei had a mens and womens team competing there. At the end of the weekend both teams had improved their seedings, learned a lot about teams squash and had a great weekend.
The girls will be training hard and fundraising during the next 6 weeks so if you see them at the courts, offer them some words of encouragement!
Coaching for selected junior night juniors:
At the conclusion of junior nights 4 juniors with potential were selected to have two coaching sessions with an invited coach.
During the school holidays Kim Gust, Paige, Molly & Stella Stantiall all received coaching from Paul Tuffin of Wanganui. Paul is an A grade player and former Central Squash rep, he has been coaching squash overseas and most recently has coached the Luxembourg men’s team. He is back in Wanganui until he starts his new coaching post in Boston, USA.
The girls enjoyed the sessions and their Rangitikei coaches are hoping to see the improvement at the upcoming Junior Prince series tournaments they are entered into.

Southern Rangitikei Vet Services leagues conclude

The Southern Rangitikei Vet Services leagues concluded recently and the winners were presented with prizes by Mark Gilmour, long time club member and director of Southern Rangitikei Vet Services. Leagues continue on 23 June and will be sponsored by Road Runner, Bulls.
McVerry Crawford Motors Rangitikei 2011 Winners

The last round of pool play provided plenty of action in the local Premier squash interclub series as it went right down to the last match between the top of the table contenders McVerry Crawford Motors Rangitikei and Harvey Round Motors Wanganui to decide the title for 2011. The Rangitikei side were also without their regular number two Dylan Tasker who is currently playing in Malaysia with the NZ Junior Squad and so had to adjust their lineup. Justin Brown moved up to the second spot while Jason Fletcher filled in at three. On first Ant Rountree playing at three put in a great effort for the Wanganui side as he won a five setter against Fletcher. After being 2/1 up Rountree lost the fourth set and was down in the fifth before a string of points gave him enough lead to take it out 11/8 in the decider. It was then the Rangitikei teams turn to get one back with its strong number one Josh Greenfield as he then defeated Rod Bannister 3/0. On next was the number two’s and Wanganui’s Kent Darlington put his team back in front by beating Justin Brown 3/0 as well. So on last was the doubles match which would decide the winner and it was the Rangitikei pairing of Jason Burton-Brown/Roger McLeod who eventually beat Matt Ratcliffe/John Roestenburg in a tight four setter. After dropping the second set the Rangitikei pair always had enough of the lead in the final two sets as McLeod who was getting most of the attention from the opposition, played better and better as the game went on. The final score was 11/9, 5/11, 11/8, 11/8 and that was enough to give them the winners title for 2011 on a count back of sets 8/7 after it was tied up at two a piece in matches.

Rangitikei team head to Tararua for fun afternoon:
The Rangitikei team took two mini buses to Tararua in the weekend to play an afternoon of squash and hi-ball. Hi-ball is a new experience for all Rangitikei players and it made the game interesting with the high unreadable bounce of the ball coupled with a short racket. The final score? well let's just say Tararua kept the trophy! A great day was had by both teams and Tararua are already planning the return match next year. Both teams parted company early evening but continued to party until the wee small hours of Sunday.

B Grade Tournament
AB cuts his beehive 50th birthday cake.
We only have one tournament a year and it’s always a good one! That was confirmed again this year. Rangitikei Squash club held its annual B grade tournament and had full draws with 56 entries. Thanks must go to tournament sponsors Pub Charity and Bee Scene.
Friday night was a time to celebrate with life member AB who now lives in Whangarei who had come back for his birthday. There were friends from a long time ago and new friends, also a couple from Kaitaia had come down especially to taste Rangitikei’s hospitality.
